‘The stuff you dream about’: Myles Turner is starting for Team USA and soaking up the experience (via The Athletic)

Myles Turner seems to be having the time of his life.

While most of the NBA is enjoying another few weeks of vacation, Turner and 11 other players with USA Basketball are playing meaningful games with a gold medal in mind. They have been together for six weeks, training and playing games in the United States, Australia and China. As basketball has taken Turner around the globe during this “offseason” business trip, he has made time to have some fun.

Like modeling on a yacht.

Like going onstage at a Fleetwood Mac concert.

Like sinking a one-handed basket from 65 feet.

Like participating in a Nike event for hoopers in Shanghai.

And like playing Heads Up! with USA head coach Gregg Popovich at dinner.

Playing for Team USA is something Turner aspired to do as a kid. He’s been in the USA Basketball program since he was a senior in high school and is taking this opportunity seriously. For example, his personal chef, whom he moved to Indianapolis and brought on full time a year ago, is with him for every step of this journey. And the Pacers sent Joe Smith, their director of executive protection, along to provide support for the starting center.
