Bringing the Energy

Coming off a string of minor injuries, Nate Taylor of the Indy Star, recounts Myles’ debut into the League.

Vogel’s strategy was to place MT into the game as a quick boost of energy for the Pacers who were actually trailing the Grizzlies late in the 1st. Being that the Grizzlies are a physical team, it was a learning moment for him to come into the game with the assignment of D-ing Zach Randolph. Although he took a few welcome to the league roughing up, teammates and others believe that he still held his own. Vogel even expressed that he was pleased by the effort he gave, alluding that he sees a transition to the four possible once he has more experience under his belt. Myles had this to say about the action he got this game:

“You’ve got to earn respect,” Turner said of his shooting. “Most fives in the league are going to back off because most bigs go out there to pass. But if you back off, my mentality is I’m going to shoot it. But I have to do it in the flow of the offense. I can’t just force shots like that. Even the one I shot was a little out of rhythm of the offense, but it went in so nobody can say much.”

After his first dunk, he felt like the nerves finally started to dissipate. Overall he did have some trouble on the defensive end in regards to foul trouble. This issue is commonplace with most rookies and he already recognizes aspects of his defensive game that he needs to work on. MT’s work ethic is evident in his desire to bring whatever the Pacers need to the table. It is no doubt that Pacers’ fans and the organization itself are proud of what they were able to witness from their 2015 draft pick.
