In the Rookie of the Year Conversation?

Ben Gibson from FanSided gave his take on MT’s ROY Potential

Myles registered at #11 on a Rookie of the Year power ranking by CBS Sports’ Ananth Pandian.

Pandian stated:

  1. Myles Turner Turner could eventually start for the Pacers but is playing quite well off the bench. The Pacers rookie is averaging 9.0 points and 4.0 rebounds in 20.5 minutes a game.

Gibson described Myles’ ranking as proof that he is “flying under the radar.” Noting that at this point in the season, not much can be analyzed due to his minutes restriction. It is an understandable position given the fact that Myles had nagging injuries at the start of the season and the Pacers feel that it is in his best interest not to put an early strain on his body. There is still hope that he will be able to increase minutes deeper into the season and begin to show off more of the talent that the Pacers believe he has. Along with getting stronger and more adjusted to the league, it is very possible that MT can make a strong contention for ROY.

In talking about his first few games, Gibson stated that “Turner has had his moments, shown his range, and i[s] looking just fine for a 19 year old basketball player but we still haven’t seen a lot of him yet.” With what we have seen so far, he has still made an impact and has room to be big trouble for opposing teams in the future. Primarily, his shot blocking presence has been a huge help but his ability to shoot the ball will ideally be an advantage going forward. Making bigs commit to respecting his shot was evident immediately and has opened up the offense in many ways for the Pacers.
