BOSTON — Jayson Tatum surveyed the defense, made his move and finished with a loud dunk.

The TD Garden went nuts. The Indiana Pacers called timeout. The Boston Celtics were rolling just minutes after looking about as terrible as they have all season. And there’s one reason why.

Myles Turner was on the bench.

“They were attacking the basket,” Pacers coach Nate McMillan said. “When he went out the game, they were able to get back into the game, attacking the basket.”

The Pacers big man had just spent the entire third quarter erasing everything Boston dared bring within arms reach, and sometimes beyond it.
