AFSETH: Turner deserves Defensive POY consideration (via Kokomo Tribune)
Indiana Pacers center Myles Turner has emerged as an elite defender for what has been one of the NBA’s top defensive teams this season. His play should earn him a spot on one of the All-Defensive teams and at least votes for the Defensive Player of the Year award.
The 22-year-old has come a long way since entering the NBA after playing only his freshman season with the University of Texas. The same can be said about his current production as a defender compared to even his performance in the playoffs against the Cleveland Cavaliers last April.
“My reaction time is quicker, I’m rotating to the ball quicker, and not necessarily having to rely on my length anymore,” Turner told the Kokomo Tribune. “Just knowing where to be at the right time.”
